Summer, here we are!

Let’s forget about work and let’s set sail! Summertime offers many opportunities to relax or challenge yourself at sea. In July, from the Gulf of Morbihan to the Emerald coast in Brittany and the shores of England, we will follow the numerous RORC races. In August, we will not miss the last run of the Figaro II boats competing for the new edition of the Solitaire Urgo Le Figaro. Happy holidays to all!
BRAVO! We are glad to start this column by expressing our congratulations to the victorious Dongfeng team but also to MAPFRE and Team Brunel who finished 2nd and 3rd in the Volvo Ocean Race 2017-18. Last June 25, after sailing 45 000 nautical miles across four oceans and landing in twelve cities, the crew, led by French skipper Charles Caudrelier, won the thirteenth edition of the Volvo Ocean Race after an amazing final move. Special congratulations to Carolijn Brouwer, Marie Riou and Justine Mettraux who became the first women ever to win one of the most epic and demanding sailing competition in the world. The reward of a strong determination. Equipping the fleet with its navigation software, Adrena is proud to have contributed to this incredible achievement!

Check your calendar! Many RORC races will be held this month. First, from 12 – 20 July 2018, don’t miss the Offshore Sailing World Championship in The Hague (Scheveningen). A fleet made of the 150 World’s best boats from 15 different nations will compete over a week (2 offshore races and 7 Inshore races). Exciting novelty this year, the 2 leading handicap systems IRC and ORC will be used to allow all type of boats to confront each other.

The magnificent surroundings of the Isle of Wight and the beauty of the walled city of St Malo… The Cowes-Dinard-St Malo RORC race will amaze us in the middle of the month. Starting on July 13, the new annual edition will once again reunite sailing enthusiasts and some leading figures of the discipline on a 175 nautical miles long course between Cowes and St Malo. An event not to be missed!

Before saying goodbye to summer, a new edition of La Solitaire Urgo Le Figaro will take place between the 20th of August and the 16th of September. A lot of exciting news this year: a start line in Le Havre, as well as several challenging legs inshore and offshore in the Bay of Biscay, but also a final run for the Figaro II boats, which will make way for the new generation of Figaro III in 2019.

Finally on August 28, we’ll have a taste of the Route du Rhum with the Trophée des Multicoques. The famous competition, created in 1980, will reborn thanks to Marc Guillemot and Dominic Bourgeois. Both navigators wanted to reunite the race giants for a 4-day competition between Lorient and the Gulf of Morbihan in France. It’s going to be spectacular! It is worth mentioning that August 30 will be a special day dedicated to the solo sailors of the next Route du Rhum in November!
