Flashback to an eventful summer

Great achievement for the French Sailing Team

The French Sailing Team triples its record in the 2016 Olympic Games. What a great reward! With 3 magnificent medals, the French Sailing Team ended up with a very impressive result. Sailing became an Olympic sport in 1900 in the Paris Olympic Games. Technical settings, races as well as boats types never stopped improving. ADRENA Navigation Software has been proudly supporting the French Sailing Team for many years!

Charline PICON became the women’s RS:X Olympic champion by winning the gold medal! RS:X is a windsurfing class that features high technology material with a modern and dynamic design.
In the same class, in the men’s category, Pierre Le Coq won the bronze medal! Although he was fourth before the medal race, he managed to grab the bronze medal in RS:X class. He set up a tough battle with the Dutch Dorian Van Rijsselberghe who had already won a gold medal in London and has finished just behind him in the very last race.

And that makes 3! Hélène Defrance and Camille Lecointre won the bronze medal in 470 class! Using the same tactical method as Pierre Le Coq, the French duo managed to win several points little by little in the medal race and finished in 3rd position, just 1 point before The Netherlands.
With 3 medals, The 2016 Olympic Games proved to be an impressive achievement for the French Sailing Team. We wish them even more success in 2020 in Tokyo!

Drheam Cup Race: a first edition under the sign of sharing

On the other side of the Atlantic, even if weather conditions are less enjoyable, sailing is nevertheless a widespread passion. 39 teams, including IRC and OSIRIS, were on the starting line of the race that took place in mid-August. The skippers faced 7 busy days with 2 stopovers for 2 different routes! A very nice route of 400 nautical miles from La Trinité sur Mer until Roscoff and passing by the Iles of Scilly. 19 boats out of 39 finished the race. However, all of them received a warm welcome at the port of Roscoff. Despite the fact that there were around 10 mixed-teams, conviviality was well present.

This event was gathering a lot of passionate sailors who shared their nautical knowledge with young people coming from the country side. Indeed, each team had the opportunity to welcome a young person onboard. No doubt it will reveal some vocations!

For several skippers, the race was a good training before the famous and unique “Vendee Globe”! This new race was a great challenge since it gave them the opportunity to experiment some tactical techniques. Among them, Thomas Ruyant onboard the IMOCA “Souffle du Nord” finished in second position and was delighted to have taken part to the very 1st edition. 2 months before the Vendee Globe, this offshore race was a great experience for a lot of professional teams who appreciated the concept of this event: a difficult and fastidious race in a very festive atmosphere!

Parnership VDG 2016

On November 6th in Sables d’Olonne, no fewer than 29 skippers will on the starting line of the 8th edition. Nearly all of them are ready to face the non-stop solo round the world race. The Vendee Globe is a real human challenge in which the skippers become amazing sea adventurers. They will be rounding the three legendary capes: Cape of Good Hope, Cape Leeuwin and Cape Horn. This year, a significant modification of the route has been made: a forbidden area is added in order to keep the skippers from sailing too far to the south in order to raise their safety. They will have to be very careful because if they don’t respect it, they will be disqualified…
